School term dates by council

Councils in England set their own term dates, and they don't all match. Some start on 1 September, others later in the week. Surrey and Nottinghamshire have a two-week October half term, and Leicestershire starts in August. Pick your council for its official 2026/27 dates and a countdown to the next holiday.

Dates are for community and voluntary-controlled schools. Academies, free schools, foundation and voluntary-aided schools can set their own, and every school chooses its own INSET days. Your council isn't listed yet? Use the GOV.UK term dates finder.
