SENCO report writing is getting its own space in Staffroom.

Annual reviews, EHCP tracking and SEND-specific writing need their own tools, not a general-purpose AI report writer with a different label on it. We are building a dedicated SENCO module and we want to build it with people who actually do this work every day.

We are inviting SENCOs and SEN leads to help shape what we build. Early access, direct input into the feature set, and a chance to tell us what current SEND tools get wrong.

Why SENCO writing needs its own approach.

Annual review reports are not school reports with different content. They are legally regulated documents, governed by the SEND Code of Practice 2015, that have to meet specific requirements around person-centred language, strengths-based framing, outcome tracking and parental voice. Getting this wrong has real consequences, for children and for schools.

At the same time, SENCOs are often the most overworked people in a school. They are responsible for the annual reviews of every child with an EHCP, often while also teaching part-time, managing a team of teaching assistants, liaising with external agencies, supporting colleagues and attending countless meetings. The paperwork burden is genuinely unsustainable.

A tool that understands SEND law, generates statutory-quality language, tracks EHCP outcomes and helps gather contributions from multiple people would make a real difference. That is what we are building and we want SENCOs to help us get it right.

The plan

What the SENCO module will do.

📋

Annual review report drafts

Generate EHCP annual review reports that follow the person-centred, strengths-based structure required by the SEND Code of Practice 2015. Not a generic report with the word 'SEND' added.

🎯

EHCP outcome tracking

Log progress against each of a pupil's EHCP outcomes throughout the year, so that when annual review time comes, you have a clear record of what has been achieved and what the next steps should be.

👥

Multi-contributor input

Gather written contributions from class teachers, TAs, parents and other professionals into a single place, and use them as the basis for a coherent, well-structured annual review report.

📝

Statutory language built in

The language of SEND annual reviews is specific and regulated. Our SENCO module is built around what the law actually requires, not what sounds approximately right.

While you wait, Staffroom already saves time on standard reports.

If you also write end-of-term class reports for pupils on your caseload, the existing Staffroom report writer is available to you right now on a free 14-day trial.
