Staffroom vs Teachmate

Teachmate is the biggest AI toolkit for UK teachers. If you want one place for worksheets, slides and quick generators across every phase, it is a strong choice. Staffroom is narrower on purpose: it is built around one job, your primary report season, and the notes that make each report about the child rather than the year group.

What Staffroom does differently

Reports built on what you noticed

Through the year you log Sparks: one sentence about something a pupil did. At report time every draft is built on those moments, and the coverage view shows which children you haven't noted anything about yet, while there is still time.

The whole class in one go

Paste your class list once. When reports are due, press one button and every pupil gets a draft that follows up last term's targets and sets the next ones. You read, edit and sign off.

Pupil names never reach the AI

Names are swapped for pseudonyms before anything is sent to an AI model, in the app and in the free tools, and put back afterwards. This is how the system is built, not a setting.

Sign-off for senior leaders

On school plans, leaders see report progress across every class, approve reports before they go home, and get warnings for the wrong name, mismatched pronouns and copied paragraphs.

When Teachmate is the better choice

  • You teach secondary, or across phases.
  • You want worksheets, slideshows, images and a wide range of quick generators in one place.
  • Your school already has a Teachmate licence and its report writer covers what you need.

Using both

Plenty of teachers keep a general toolkit for resources and a specialist tool for reports. Staffroom's Free plan has no time limit, so you can add your class, log Sparks through the term and see what your reports look like before you decide anything.
