Year 6 Maths Lesson Plans

Pupils consolidate and extend their ability to convert fluently between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and to use these interchangeably in calculations and comparisons.

Pupils are introduced to ratio and proportion as ways of comparing quantities.

This lesson builds on pupils initial introduction to ratio earlier in Year 6 and develops their ability to apply ratio and proportion to solve a wider range of problems, including those involving scale, recipes, map reading and missing values.

Pupils are introduced to algebraic thinking: using letters to represent unknown values, forming and solving simple equations, and expressing mathematical relationships as formulae.

This lesson develops pupils ability to calculate missing angles in triangles, quadrilaterals and other polygons using known angle facts.
